Procurement Development Program

Each year GSK spends more than $12.8 billion on materials, services, and capital equipment. It is the role of Procurement to manage this spend and source suppliers for all strategic and operational purchases at GSK.

Our mission is to enable GSK to achieve its operational and financial objectives, by delivering significant savings while meeting or exceeding all business requirements - including availability, quality, and service. Our core business process, Sourcing Group Management, involves cross-functional collaboration between Procurement professionals and our internal business partners to maximise the benefit of supplier agreements and contracts to GSK. GSK Procurement is on a journey to become the best procurement organization in the world, demonstrating world-class excellence in people, processes, and technology. Our eSourcing tools are the best in the business, with 90% of spend identified as appropriate for eSourcing

The program

Through this three-year program we are offering you:

  • An outstanding opportunity to support the commercial ambitions of GSK and progress your career into senior leadership roles.
  • A solid grounding in Procurement through a variety of challenging roles that will push you to your limits, but will be underpinned by the appropriate levels of support and training.
  • The structure of the program may enable you to experience up to three different site locations including Philadelphia, PA, Pittsburgh, PA and Research Triangle Park, NC.
  • Opportunities to work on overseas assignments, usually up to 3 months duration.

The program is structured into three, 12-month assignments within separate procurement areas. Those areas are Production, Global eSourcing Team (GeST), and one other specialist department ranging from Commercial, International, IT, Corporate Services, Research & Development and Global Systems and Operations. On a day- to-day basis you’ll be responsible for managing GSK spend within particular categories, building and running e-bid events/auctions, project management, supplier conditioning and negotiation, data analysis, market research, and stakeholder engagement. When nearing the end of each assignment you’ll work with the management team to identify the next business area that will be appropriate for your skill development and meet business needs. At the end of the program, if you have delivered to the standards that we expect of you, you will have the opportunity to apply for permanent roles within GSK.

If you have the energy and passion—and a positive attitude—and if you're ready to take on real responsibility from day one, apply now, this is the program for you.

Training and development

On joining us, individuals go through a departmental, corporate, and procurement specific induction process. Procurement Associates will participate in the Sourcing Group Management program to learn how they can apply best practice tools and techniques in the development and implementation of an integrated procurement strategy.

Associates will also participate in quarterly developmental planning activities with their line manager throughout the three-year program in order to identify learning requirements. Individuals will be supported by their line manager, the Global Learning Team and existing associates on the Prospects in Procurement program, throughout their three-year development program.
